ST. LOUIS – One person is dead and another was left injured early Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle crash caused a pickup truck to strike a building overnight in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), the crash took place shortly after 1:45 a.m. at Page Boulevard and North Vandeventer Avenue in north St. Louis’ Vandeventer neighborhood. The crash involved a Ford Freestyle and a Ford Ranger pickup truck.

The crash happened after the driver of the Ford Freestyle was speeding eastbound on Page Boulevard, ran a red light, and struck the Ford Ranger pickup truck. The impact from the crash caused the Ford Ranger to strike a shut-down restaurant and catch fire.

After the crash, the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup truck, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Freestyle was taken into custody after the crash, according to SLMPD.

Additionally, a passenger in the Ford Freestyle was left injured after the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. The person left dead in the crash has not yet been identified.
