BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Two men are charged in connection with a shooting last week in Belleville, Illinois.
According to a statement from the Belleville Police Department, the shooting happened just before 7:50 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, in the first block of East D Street.
Officers responded to calls of shots fired and found two men at the scene with gunshot wounds. One victim was taken to a local hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
Police said one suspect was taken into custody at the scene. The other suspect was arrested during a traffic stop a short distance away.
According to investigators, a disturbance broke out between two groups of people, which precipitated the gunfire.
On Sunday, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against the two suspected shooters.
Michael A. Edwards, 56, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
James M. Walker, 64, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Edwards and Walker are being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending further court proceedings.
