ST. LOUIS – Two more people have been arrested and charged for stealing copper wire in a neighborhood devastated by the May 16 tornado.

According to probable cause statements from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the thefts happened Monday, June 2, in the 4600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, located in the Greater Ville neighborhood.

Police said officers working security detail in the neighborhoods devastated by the St. Louis tornado saw two men taking copper wire and placing it in shopping carts.

Officers approached the two men, identified as Irvin Carroll, 56, and Christopher Lindsey, 46, and inquired where they got the wire. Lindsey allegedly told police Ameren gave them the wire for free. The two men were then arrested.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged both Carroll and Lindsey with stealing – $750 or more. They remain jailed without bond, pending a court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
