ST. LOUIS – A man was convicted of several felony charges in a deadly gun battle outside a St. Louis gas station two years ago.
Jurors found James Armstrong, 26, guilty of involuntary manslaughter, attempted robbery and armed criminal action in connection with the death of Jerry Savage, 25.
The shooting happened on Feb. 8, 2023, in the 4500 block of Union Boulevard in St. Louis’ Mark Twain neighborhood.
Investigators say Savage was filling his truck with gas when Armstrong and several accomplices parked at a nearby pump. While Armstrong remained in the car, his armed accomplices attempted to rob Savage.
Savage was shot multiple times before the accomplices left in a vehicle that Armstrong drove. After the shooting, another man in nearby vehicle took two backpacks full of marijuana from Savage’s truck. Savage was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Armstrong was released one month later, on March, 8, 2023, at his home. Investigators say he was on supervised release after pleading guilty to a federal drug charge in 2020.
“Even though he did not pull the trigger, the defendant’s actions abetting Mr. Savage’s murder were cold, calculated and deadly,” said St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore via a news release. “The jury’s verdict ensures that he will bear the full weight of the law for his crime.”
Armstrong is scheduled to be sentenced on April 14, 2025.
