ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man appeared in federal court on Tuesday to be sentenced for making and selling fake identification.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said David B. Crosby, 28, admitted selling stolen and/or fraudulent IDs and a Social Security number via social media.

According to prosecutors, Crosby sold a fake Missouri driver’s license in October 2023. The license had the name and information of a victim but showed someone else’s photograph. The fake ID and other information were used to purchase a $70,000 BMW in Texas through a fraudulently obtained loan.

Crosby also used a fake ID while attempting to lease an apartment and obtain an auto loan worth $33,0000.

The U.S. Secret Service, St. Charles Police Department, and Wentzville Police Department investigated the case.

Crosby pleaded guilty in November 2024 to one count of fraud with identification documents.

A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Crosby to two years in federal prison.
