CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Cahokia Heights community is mourning after another tragic shooting that has taken the life of a teenager. 

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis confirmed one of the teens shot in a double shooting over the weekend has died.

Fifteen-year-old Charles E. Jones was in critical condition following the double shooting Saturday in the 100 block of Lazarcheff Drive. 

The Major Case Squad announced his passing in a 3 p.m. release Tuesday. 

They also added that their detectives have made significant progress in the investigation into the shooting.

“Since the investigation began, detectives have followed up on over 60 leads. Persons of interest have been developed, and some individuals are currently in custody,” the release stated. “As this remains an active investigation, no further details regarding names or potential charges will be released at this time.”

Residents of the community said they are tired of the violence, especially one’s that involve adolescents.

Investigators are pursuing several leads, and the Major Case Squad is asking people with information to come forward.
