ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Spanish Lake man remains behind bars for now for sexual misconduct on a MetroLink train for the second time.
Deangelo Covington was in court Monday, asking a judge to reduce his $50,000 bond for charges of sexual misconduct on a MetroLink train.
“The first thing we do is we start pulling video. So in this particular case, we’re able to provide very detailed, very descriptive video,” Kevin Scott, Bi-State Development General Manager of Security, said.
According to court documents, security cameras caught Covington having sex with a seat on the train for 10 minutes at St. Louis Airport Terminal One Station last month.
Allegedly, the same day he exposed himself to someone at the UMSL South Metrolink Platform.
One passenger told FOX 2 Monday she’s never seen anything like that and normally feels safe riding the train.
“Sometimes I do, but there’s a lot that goes on on the train,” Latoya Simms said.
In court Monday, it was revealed Covington had drugs in his system at the time of arrest and is diagnosed as bipolar and schizophrenic.
The prosecutor on the case said she was extremely opposed to the bond reduction, pointing to a number of past convictions.
Last May, Covington was convicted of sexual misconduct involving a child under 15, where he was accused of exposing himself to a child.
Then, last June, Covington was caught for the first time having sex with a MetroLink seat at the St. Louis Airport terminal.
He pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual misconduct in that incident on Dec. 9, 2024, and was sentenced to 173 days in jail but was credited with time served.
Now, prosecutors say it has happened again.
“This individual is on that exclusionary list, and as a result of this act on the 13th of February, (he) will receive a lifetime ban as well,” Scott said.
The judge denied the bond reduction request.
