IRON COUNTY, Mo. – Two people from Desloge, Missouri, died Monday in a head-on collision on a rural highway in Mark Twain National Forest.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report, the collision happened around 9:20 a.m. on Highway 32, approximately eight miles east of Bixby.

The highway patrol said a 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on the highway when the driver attempted to pass the vehicle in front of it. When the Camry pulled into the eastbound lane, it smashed into an oncoming 2021 Nissan Sentra.

The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:15 a.m. He was 21. The passenger was taken to helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, where she died at approximately 4 p.m. She was 21.

The driver of the Sentra, a 67-year-old woman, suffered moderate injuries and remains hospitalized.

No one involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt, the highway patrol said.
