ST. LOUIS – As our large storm system pulls away to the east Wednesday morning, two big things will happen. First, colder air will arrive on gusty northwest winds. Second, light rain will mix with then change over to snow.
While some minor snow accumulations are expected in mid-Missouri Wednesday, the St. Louis area will mostly just see wind-blown pockets of snow. However, that could reduce visibility throughout the day. Temperatures will fall into the 30s Wednesday and hold there.
A wind advisory has been issued for Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Strong northwest winds are expected throughout the day, sustained at 20-30 mph with occasional gusts of 45 mph or higher. These winds could blow around lawn ornaments and trash cans and knock down some tree limbs. They could even cause isolated power outages.
Winds ease back Wednesday evening and into early Thursday. Skies are expected to clear overnight. Wake-up temperatures Thursday will be in the 20s. A sunny morning Thursday with clouds returning into Thursday afternoon and night, with highs in the upper 40s. More light rain is possible into Friday morning.
Heads up! Missouri is expected to have a statewide tornado drill Wednesday at 11am. As of this writing, it is unclear if ongoing active weather may delay the test.
