ST. PETERS, Mo. – A mother is in custody after she aided her child in attacking a teen girl at Mid Rivers Mall in 2023.
According to a probable cause statement, Brittney Young (age not disclosed) was with her child at Mid Rivers Mall on Nov. 16, 2023, when her child ran and started attacking a 17-year-old girl.
Surveillance video shows Young following her child’s lead, running to the scene and also assaulting the victim. A probable cause statement says that while the child is still attacking the girl, Young is seen on video also punching the victim in the head and back, then pulling braids out of the victim’s hair.
The victim was left with several small cuts and bruises to her lips and cheek, in addition to 18 braids pulled from her scalp.
Court records add that “at no time does Young attempt to separate (her child) from (the victim), and is only seen assaulting (the victim) further.”
After the assault, Young and her child ran outside of the mall and got into their vehicle.
According to court documents, the child and victim attend the same school, and administrators identified Young in surveillance footage.
Young refused to make a statement, records added.
She is charged with one count of fourth-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault. A hearing is scheduled for March 25.
