ST. LOUIS — At least six tornadoes may have touched down, leaving a trail of destruction across multiple communities. The National Weather Service is deploying crews today to assess the extent of the damage caused by the tornadoes.
Caroline Pettey is reporting live from Jefferson County, where parts of Arnold are being described as a war zone this morning.
A woman is picking up the pieces after a powerful storm destroyed her home and caused widespread damage to a nearby park and the surrounding trees. Despite the devastation, Sherry, the homeowner, remains in high spirits and is leaning on her neighbors for support.
“It’s a reminder of how strong this community really is,” Sherry said.
Sherry’s home was completely destroyed when massive trees were uprooted and toppled by the storm. She’s grateful for the response from the community. Neighbors quickly came to check on her. One even opened their door Sherry fled her home during the storm.
Storm survey teams will continue to assess debris patterns and radar data to determine the exact number and strength of tornadoes. An official report from the NWS is expected within the next few days.
