ST. LOUIS – We are heading into a holiday weekend for many, but please be weather aware this weekend.
A mild start and warm day Friday, with high temperatures in the 80s. We are dry through the mid-afternoon hours. After 3 p.m., a slow-moving and ultimately stalling cold front will arrive. Rain and thunderstorms, some possibly strong to severe, will arrive Friday evening and night. The strong storms could produce some strong wind gusts and up to quarter-size hail.
Weekend rainfall totals are expected to be in the range of 3 to 5 inches, with the heaviest rain coming on Saturday. The cold front stalls just to our south into Saturday and that will bring us waves of rain and storms through Easter weekend.
This rainfall could potentially cause minor to moderate river flooding, particularly on the Meramec and its tributaries. Along with the rain, there is a second chance at strong to severe storms Sunday afternoon and evening.
Note, a Flood Watch has been issued for areas along and south of Interstate 70.
We dry out, thankfully, into Monday morning, with dry weather expected through Tuesday.
