ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis Zoo announced Thursday morning that one of their harbor seals, 14-year-old Gabby, died last week.
According to a release, Gabby suffered from an asymptomatic heart disease during a medical procedure, which led to complications.
“Gabby had a fun personality…she could often be found playing with unique enrichment options provided by her incredible care team,” the zoo said.
Gabby could be distinguished by her almond-shaped eyes and dimple on her back, the zoo noted.
She joined the Saint Louis Zoo when she was four years old in 2014, quickly becoming part of the trio with other harbor seals Dorris and Nuna.
“She will be greatly missed by the zoo team and all who knew her and cared for her at Sea Lion Sound,” the release said.
