ST. LOIUIS – Local domestic violence groups said they’re seeing an increase in calls for help after last month’s tornado ripped through St. Louis.
“You have people at the end of their rope, at the ledge, about ready to jump,” Rachell Nord-Roseau, director of counseling for Pathways for Healing, said.
Nord-Roseau said emotions and frustrations are growing for some tornado victims. “People think that things should be moving relatively quickly and they’re not and because of this and the isolation you see someone has to take that frustration out.”
She said Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation has seen a 15% increase on intakes involving domestic violence since the tornado.
“We’re seeing more men attacking their spouses, attacking their girlfriends and a lot of it is because I’m frustrated, I’m hurting, I’ve lost everything. If you take one more thing from me, I may have to take myself out,” Nord-Roseau said, adding that many organizations are ready to help anyone in need.
