ST. LOUIS – Prosecutors issued charges and a city judge handed down a warrant for a 25-year-old man accused of a weekend carjacking in Midtown.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the carjacking happened around 9:50 a.m. Sunday behind the 3000 block of Locust Street.
Police claim Dejuan M. Allen approached the victim as he got out of his vehicle. Allen took out a gun and demanded the victim’s keys and cellphone. The victim relinquished his phone and keys, and Allen drove off in the victim’s 2019 Toyota Rav4.
An officer located the Rav4 a short time later in the 800 block of Carr Street and attempted to stop Allen.
Allen sped off with police in tow, but he collided with a building in the 3100 block of North 11th Street. Allen was taken into custody after a brief foot chase and then brought to the hospital for a “fit for confinement” examination. No officers or civilians were injured during the chase.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Allen with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. He’ll be jailed without bond upon his release from the hospital.
