ELECTION RESULTS: President | Missouri | Illinois | Amendment 2 | Amendment 3
St. Louis voters will face important decisions at the polls on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with a ballot featuring both national races and significant local propositions.
Local Ballot Measures
Proposition B: Budget Control
Would grant the Board of Aldermen more authority over budget modifications without requiring Board of Estimate and Apportionment approval. Changes must maintain a balanced budget and cannot affect state-mandated funding or city debt obligations.
Proposition T: Transportation Department
Proposes transforming the city’s Street Department into a comprehensive Department of Transportation, consolidating services including street maintenance, waste removal, and transportation planning. If approved, changes would take effect in five years.
Proposition V: Vacant Property Fines
Would remove the current $500 cap on fines for vacant and non-owner-occupied properties with code violations, allowing for higher penalties on neglected properties.
Proposition S: Housing Initiative
Would impose a 3% fee on short-term rentals (Airbnb, Vrbo) to fund affordable housing initiatives. At least 50% of proceeds would support the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, with remaining funds allocated to housing assistance and eviction prevention.
Major Races
Presidential Race: Vice President Kamala Harris (D) vs. former President Donald Trump (R)
U.S. Senate: Incumbent Josh Hawley (R) vs. Lucas Kunce (D)
Governor: Mike Kehoe (R) vs. Crystal Quade (D)
Missouri voters will also decide on constitutional amendments regarding abortion rights and voting methods, making this a particularly consequential election for the state’s future.
