ELECTION RESULTS: President | Missouri | Illinois | Amendment 2 | Amendment 3

On November 5, 2024, Missouri voters will decide on Amendment 2, a measure to legalize sports betting within the state. Currently, sports betting is prohibited in Missouri, while 38 other states have legalized the practice.

The amendment would authorize the Missouri Gaming Commission to regulate sports wagering and issue licenses to several types of operators, including existing Missouri casinos, online platforms such as FanDuel and DraftKings, and professional sports teams like the Cardinals, Royals, Chiefs, and Blues.

If passed, the amendment would restrict sports betting to individuals 21 years or older who are physically located within Missouri’s borders. The measure includes significant financial provisions, establishing a $500,000 license application fee with a five-year renewal requirement. Additionally, a 10% wagering tax would be imposed on adjusted gross gaming revenues, with early estimates projecting annual state revenue of approximately $29 million. These funds would be directed toward Missouri educational institutions and a mandatory Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund to address gambling addiction concerns.

Voters choosing “yes” on Amendment 2 will support legalizing sports betting under these regulated conditions, while those voting “no” will maintain the current prohibition on sports betting in Missouri.
