ST. LOUIS – The Bellefontaine Neighbors Board of Aldermen met Thursday night, but with four members absent–including those who voted against or abstained on the city budget–the board lacked a quorum and could not conduct official business.

Residents and city officials filled the council chambers in anticipation for a board of aldermen meeting. Despite the delay, Mayor Dinah Tatman had a significant update on the city employee walkout that began weeks ago.

“The employees will return to work tomorrow, and both facilities will open up on Monday. And because I don’t have a quorum, I can’t go into detail, but I encourage you to get all the information off the table,” she said.

In addition to the return of the city employees, a police officer announced two new police officers have joined the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department.

However, frustrations among residents boiled over, with many questioning the absence of key alderpersons and the allocation of $400,000 for settlements and legal fees.

More details about the resolution of the walkout will be shared Friday.
