ST. LOUIS – Colin Brown, a teenage hockey player shot Saturday evening on Interstate 55 in St. Louis, died Wednesday morning from his injuries.

Colin Brown was struck by a stray bullet around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 55 near Loughborough Avenue as his family was driving home from one of his hockey games.

After Colin was shot, his father continued driving to the area of South 4th and Walnut streets, where he was met by police and EMS. Emergency responders then rushed Colin to a hospital, where he was in critical condition for multiple days before he died.

Colin was 16 years old and a student of Christian Brother College High School in St. Louis County. His family is asking for privacy at this time, according to a St. Louis police update Wednesday.

Mitch McCoy, a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, says some of Colin’s organs were donated to other patients in need.

“This donation is an example of the type of young man Colin was and the kind of family he grew up in,” said McCoy. “Their steadfast commitment to serve the people around him should inspire us all.”

Community support has been strong for Colin over the last several days, with CBC High School, the St. Louis Blues and several youth hockey organizations all keeping him in their thoughts. The Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation, a non-profit organization, is giving a three-to-one match for every dollar donated to Colin’s family, up to a $2,500 maximum.

Meanwhile, St. Louis homicide detectives have followed up on several tips since Monday. Police have received new video and are in the process of reviewing it for any relevant information connected with the case.

Police are urging anyone who lives near I-55 and Loughborough Avenue to review their security cameras between 10:30-45 p.m. from Saturday, Nov. 23 for anything suspicious that could help officers investigate.

“No tip or piece of information is too small,” said McCoy. “We need everything right now. We don’t know what little piece of information may crack this case.”

Police have not yet disclosed any potential suspect information in connection with the shooting that led to Colin’s death.

“This type of disregard for human life will not be tolerated in this city or this region,” said McCoy.

CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information on a suspect in this shooting. If you have any relevant information, contact SLMPD’s homicide detective line at 314-444-5371 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).

The St. Louis Blues shared a statement over Colin’s death, saying, “Our hearts are broken.” The Blues plan to celebrate his life with a pregame moment on Saturday and will also raise proceeds for his family in a 50/50 raffle from the game.
