ST. LOUIS – Despite the best intentions, nothing lasts forever.
A sign on the door of Peacock Diner in the Delmar Loop reads, “Closing notice…after a wonderful 10-year run… thanks for your support through the last decade.”
The word had spread around Delmar Wednesday.
“Ever since Covid, it’s harder to find late-night places open past a certain time,” Chris Caudle said. “It sucks that Peacock has to close, because it was one of those places.”
No one from the establishment was available to comment.
“I frequent there in the mornings when I would get to work at 8 a.m. because their food was great,” Darren Davis said. “It was amazing. Why they’re closing, I have no idea.”
The 10-year lease was up on Dec. 31.
“Something is taken from the identity of it, which is kind of sad,” Miles Sulentic said. “But it leaves opportunity for what’s new or what’s next. Something that is going to come forward in the future.”
There are still plenty of restaurants and businesses to choose from.
Samantha Smugala of the East Loop Community Improvement District says five new businesses are slated to open in the east loop this year.
Crime in the east loop dropped 40 percent from 2023 to 2024.
One of the Loop’s largest events, the Ice Carnival, is quickly approaching on Jan. 25. Business owners are hopeful the event will serve as an opportune time to see all the Delmar Loop has to offer and support local businesses.
