ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis Circuit Court judge issued an arrest warrant last week for a man said to have terrorized drivers across south city neighborhoods in the latter half of 2024.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Derron J. Tucker, 19, with one count of vehicle hijacking, 11 counts of stealing – $750 or more, 16 counts of stealing, seven counts of stealing – motor vehicle, one count of attempted stealing – motor vehicle, and one count of first-degree property damage.
The arrest warrant, signed on Jan. 3, 2025, has no bond attached.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, Tucker participated in numerous cajackings and car cloutings at gas stations and intersections in the Cheltenham, Clayton-Tamm, Clifton Heights, The Hill, Hi-Pointe, Midtown, North Hampton, and Wydown-Skinker neighborhoods on the following dates: July 21, Oct. 17, Oct. 23, Oct. 26, Nov. 5, Nov. 8, Nov. 21, Nov. 23, Nov. 26, and Nov. 30.
Tucker and others stole victims’ cars while the owner was preoccupied with something else or utilized the “bump and run” technique, in which thieves will bump into the rear of their target vehicle and then hop in that car and flee when the driver gets out to inspect the damage.
Police said Tucker and others would sometimes use those stolen cars in future thefts listed above.
When he wasn’t outright stealing the vehicles, police said Tucker would break into cars and steal wallets, cash, credit cards, handbags, laptops, iPads, smart phones, and other items.
Investigators said cell phone data puts Tuckers at most of the locations of the crime.
According to police, Tucker is affiliated with the 98Smacc gang, which is tied to crimes of this nature.
Anyone with information on Tucker’s whereabouts is asked to call the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
