ST. LOUIS – A previously convicted felon from St. Louis appeared in federal court on Tuesday and admitted to a carjacking, a shooting, and two other incidents involving firearms.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Darnell L. Clemons, 38, will be sentenced on April 24 after pleading guilty to one count of carjacking, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Clemons admitted that he and another man carjacked the manager of a University City restaurant on May 16, 2018, and stole her 2015 Toyota Corolla, cash, and phone.

On July 29, 2021, Clemons accompanied his nephew to steal someone’s gun at a convenience store. Clemons shot the victim in the back as he fought with Clemons’ nephew.

A week later, Clemons was involved in an apparent shootout in the O’Fallon neighborhood in north St. Louis on Aug. 4. Clemons jumped through a stranger’s window and was arrested with a stolen 9mm pistol in his possession. The gun was empty.

Finally, Clemons was arrested on outstanding warrants on Dec. 8, 2021, and police found a loaded 9mm Glock with a large capacity drum magazine.
