ST. LOUIS – The Humane Society of Missouri is holding its 4th Annual Day of Giving Tuesday to support its Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT).

The Day of Giving is a crucial fundraising effort aimed at supporting the Animal Cruelty Task Force, which plays a vital role in addressing animal abuse and neglect across Missouri.

In 2024, ACT traveled nearly 350,000 miles to respond to reports involving more than 15,000 animals. This extensive operation is necessary due to an increase in hotline calls and rescues conducted by the task force.

The task force has been particularly busy over the past year, often responding to cases involving animal hoarding or abandonment. While large-scale rescues from substandard breeders, or “puppy mills,” are sometimes highlighted, most rescues involve fewer than a dozen animals.

These efforts are coordinated with local law enforcement to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of the animals. This year’s Day of Giving highlights three significant rescues: 36 chihuahuas from a hoarder, 22 starving Coonhounds from an abandoned, unlicensed puppy mill, and 15 malnourished horses from a dilapidated barn in Hazelwood.

The Humane Society of Missouri’s Day of Giving provides essential support for the Animal Cruelty Task Force, enabling them to continue their critical work in rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need. By sharing stories of past rescues, the organization hopes to inspire donations and raise awareness about animal welfare issues.
