HAZELWOOD, Mo. – A major water main break in North Saint Louis County has led to a widespread boil order and flooding in nearby homes. The repairs could take up to 8 hours to complete, and the boil order is expected to last much longer than that.
The break occurred early this morning, around 12:30 a.m., with repair efforts by Missouri American Water starting at 3:30 a.m. The precautionary boil order, affecting areas including Florissant, Ferguson, Berkeley, Dellwood, Kinloch, and Lambert St. Louis International Airport, is expected to remain in effect for approximately 48 hours.
Students in the Ferguson-Florissant School District will have a virtual learning day today. An apartment complex near the break site has been impacted, with power outages reported in one of the buildings.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to follow the boil order instructions until further notice, as repairs continue throughout the day. This includes bringing abt drinking and cooking water to a boil for three minutes. The water is OK for bathing, washing, and other non-consumable uses.
