ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis nonprofit that aims to support immigrants across the region has launched a hotline for individuals to report ICE activity.
The nonprofit, Immigrant Service Providers Network STL, announced a rapid response line earlier this month that aims to connect individuals with legal resources, provide real-time support, and document potential immigration enforcement actions.
Individuals are encouraged to call the hotline at 314-270-7080 if they see ICE agents around the St. Louis community.
According to Immigrant Service Providers Network STL, if ICE is nearby, support groups will be available during certain hours to inform people of their rights and offer assistance. The hotline also aims to provide guidance for individuals or family members who are arrested, and organizers say an immigration attorney will be available during certain hours.
According to a website for Immigrant Service Providers Network STL, the nonprofit consists of several organizations and individuals dedicated to educating foreign-born residents while also offering networking opportunities and community resources.
Immigration has become a renewed focus following Donald Trump’s first month in his second presidential term. According to the Associated Press, Trump has signed at least 10 executive orders on immigration, while U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported making hundreds of immigration arrests nationwide over the last several weeks.
On Jan. 31, an El Maguey restaurant in O’Fallon, Missouri, temporarily closed after people claimed they saw ICE arresting employees. FOX 2’s efforts to confirm information with the ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have been unanswered on multiple occassions.
Last year, the St. Louis region was anticipating one of its highest numbers of new immigrant arrivals in decades, around 2,500 people. Mayor Tishaura Jones has previously described St. Louis as a “welcoming city” for immigrants and refugees, with various initiatives that aim to expand support services.
