WENTZVILLE, Mo. – Nearly 250 employees of a vehicle hauling company in Wentzville are without jobs. the news comes after Jack Cooper failed to agree to a new contract with General Motors late last week.
The wife of one of the drivers told FOX 2 News that Jack Cooper’s Wentzville terminal closed its doors for the last time on Friday. A news crew visited the terminal on Tuesday afternoon saw no activity at the facility.
Jack Cooper announced the layoffs would start on Saturday and 239 employees would be affected. They join more than 400 of the company’s workers in Kansas City who were laid off earlier this month.
Founded in 1928 in Kansas City, Jack Cooper served as the vehicle carrier for General Motors. It would go on to become one of the largest fleets of finished vehicle carriers in North America.
