ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man was arrested last week for displaying a gun and firing a round on a MetroBus last fall.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on Oct. 30, 2024, at the intersection of Kingshighway Boulevard and Natural Bridge Road, where the corners of four north St. Louis neighborhoods meet.
Police said John W. Sanders Jr., 23, was a passenger on the bus and, for reasons unknown, got angry and began yelling at the bus driver.
The driver escorted Sanders off the bus, at which point Sanders took out a gun and pointed it at the driver through the window, police said. Sanders went back to the driver’s side of the bus and pointed his firearm inside the bus.
According to police, the driver managed to strike Sanders’ hand as the gun went off. No one was injured, but the bullet struck a bus window.
Sanders was apprehended on Feb. 13, 2025, and remains in custody without bond at the St. Louis City Justice Center.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Sanders with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of first-degree property damage.
