ST. LOUIS — As the St. Louis region experiences another round of snow on Tuesday into Wednesday, this system is nothing compared to what the region experienced almost two decades ago during the ice storm of 2006.
According to the National Weather Service, from November 30, 2006, to December 1, 2006, the region saw two inches of sleet and freezing rain accompanied by thundersnow, gusty winds, and over a foot of snow.
The storm system swept across much of the middle of the country, from Oklahoma all the way up to Wisconsin.
The St. Louis region experienced the bulk of the ice accumulation and high winds that produced widespread fallen trees and power outages.
The National Weather Service said at one point over 500,000 households and businesses were without power from the St. Louis metropolitan area into central Illinois.
