JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. –  With winter watch underway, FOX 2 is also preparing for more snow, as the icy conditions continue to move into the region.

One unhoused person was found dead in the city of St. Louis early morning.

Schools also were closed in for Wednesday, as many superintendents are observing the weather when it comes to decision-making on behalf of the safety of students.

With a second round of snow expected to arrive, officials urge drivers to stay alert and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.

State and local road crews began pre-treating highways and major intersections with a salt and brine mixture to help prevent ice build-up.

Plow trucks are on standby, ready to be deployed as soon as the second round of snow begins to fall.

Officials with the Jefferson County Emergency Management Department aim to keep the roads safe.

“We would encourage people to stay off the roads if they can. If they do have to be on the road, we would like for them to make room for the crews that are cleaning,” Deputy Director Jina Akinds said. “Always be safe and be aware that off-ramps and places that they might be going could be slick on the road. Take extra supplies in your car in case you do get stuck if the snow gets steep and just try to be as safe as possible.”
