ST. LOUIS – Light snow remains on the lanes and shoulders of highways in Missouri and Illinois as MODOT and IDOT work to clear the roads following the latest winter weather storm.

MODOT crews worked overnight and through the morning to clear Highway 40 near Forest Park, focusing on main lines before tackling entrance and exit ramps.

“We’re still doing a lot of cleaning up,” said Bob Becker, a MODOT engineer. “Fortunately, the night crews did a great job of getting things peeled back, because it did slow down about 3-4 o’clock this morning.”

Joe Monroe, an IDOT engineer, noted that roads in Illinois are in pretty good shape, with southern counties taking a bit longer to clear due to heavier snow coverage.

Monroe emphasized the importance of sunlight in aiding the melting process, stating, “But as long as we get some sun and the winds don’t get too bad today, we’ll be able to make some progress throughout the morning and early afternoon.”

Drivers are advised to slow down and exercise caution, particularly on ramps and areas that may appear wet, as they could be icy.
