ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – A 31-year-old man faces charges after attacking investigators during a well-being check in Belleville on Thursday.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred a little after 4 p.m. Thursday on the 700 block of South 15th Street in Belleville. Police say the attack happened during a well-being check of a child at the residence.
While at the residence, police say the 31-year-old man attacked officers and an investigator from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. During the attack, the man attempted to disarm one of the officers, and a firearm was discharged without injuring anyone.
Upon the request of additional officers on the scene, the 31-year-old was later taken into custody. According to police, two officers were transported to a local hospital following the attack, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, the suspect is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail pending formal charges. The investigation is still ongoing.
