LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. — Charges are being sought against a southwest Missouri man after he allegedly admits to shooting an Amazon delivery driver in the head.
The shooting reportedly happened Wednesday afternoon west of Highway 97 along Lawrence County Road 2152 in the Pierce City-area, according to a probable cause statement from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the probable cause, the victim was seen driving off the roadway and into a field before crashing into a fence shortly before 4 p.m. A witness called in the crash.
Investigators say the victim was later taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin with a bullet wound to the head. That person’s current condition is unknown.
Authorities looked at video from Amazon, which they say show the driver approaching a driveway at 3902 Lawrence County Road 2152 while slumped in the vehicle seat.

The resident of the home was identified as Thomas Coy, 64, of Wentworth. Sheriff deputies say Coy confessed to shooting the delivery driver with a pellet rifle and watched the vehicle crash into the fence.
Coy reportedly admitted to going to the Amazon vehicle and removing the driver from the seat before laying that person in the roadside ditch.
Additionally, Coy has an extensive criminal history including failure to appear and several felony convictions. Charges for 1st-degree assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon are being sought against Coy.
