BERKELEY, Mo. – Police have identified the woman and girl found stabbed to death inside a Berkeley man’s home over the weekend.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Lawrente’ O’Cain, 28, on Sunday with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action. O’Cain, who appeared in court on Monday, remains jailed without bond.
According to the Berkeley Police Department’s probable cause statement, officers received a call around 4:45 p.m. Saturday for a reported stabbing at O’Cain’s home in the 8300 block of Redfir Drive.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found Mioshi McCloud, 53, dead in the living room and My’Elle Harris, 11, dead in a bedroom. Police claim both McCloud and Harris had been stabbed multiple times.
When officers found O’Cain at the home, he had blood on his hands and body. The police took O’Cain into custody at the scene to await formal charges.
Police found three knives near the victims, according to the probable cause statement. All three appeared to have been used in the crime.
My’Elle Harris’ mother called the police after her daughter called her and told her she had been stabbed, the police claim. The young girl’s mother then called the house and O’Cain answered the phone. He was breathing heavily and told her that her daughter was asleep.
Police and prosecutors allege McCloud went to Berkeley police on June 8 and told them that O’Cain, who is her son, was making threats to both her and her granddaughter.
