ST. LOUIS – A handful of business owners in the LaSalle Park neighborhood were shocked to discover their windows smashed Sunday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., a man who is allegedly known in the area for loitering was seen on camera walking through nearby alleyways and holding weapons.

“He’s just coming through the alley here and has either a sledgehammer or hammer and is just smashing out the windows—just randomly—for no reason,” said Patrick McGlynn, whose businesses Shamrock Pub and French Market Pizza were targeted.

Just 30 minutes later, the owner of the Old Rock House received a call from an employee to report the damage.

After arriving at the scene, the owner said he initially thought the broken windows were the result of gunfire due to the amount of glass on the ground.

The owner said it was quite expensive to have 23 windows boarded and hammered in place to protect his business – and that’s before tallying up the cost for replacement.

Police have a suspect in custody, but no charges have been filed.
