ST. LOUIS – A new mural now graces the side of the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Pediatrics Building, created by two students from the Central Visual and Performing Arts School.
Jovi Vaughn and Micajah Carr’s vision and creativity transformed a blank wall into a symbol for optimism.
“Cardinal Glennon gave us the opportunity to make the community brighter and to let everyone know that we’re not just a school based on the tragedy, which is really meaningful,” Vaughn said.
The mural serves as a poignant response to the deadly shooting in 2022 that claimed two lives, offering a message of healing and inspiration. At the time of the shooting, Vaughn and Carr were freshmen at the school.
They both have finished their junior year and are on track to becoming seniors.
“(I’m) still traumatized over the stuff and saying, but we also have to find a way to heal to where it’s not easy,” Carr said.
Art tells a story that sometimes we can’t put into words. It allows artists to share their emotions that they can’t put into words, and the mural is a great example of that.
