MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – Two men are in custody—one in St. Louis City, the other in Madison County, Illinois—for last week’s double shooting that claimed the life of an Alton man.
According to Sgt. Andrew Pierson, spokesman for the Alton Police Department, the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on May 28 in the 3100 block of Lawn Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find Donald R. Lane suffering from a gunshot wound.
Lane was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. He was 41.
While police were still at the scene, they were notified of a second victim with a gunshot wound at an area hospital. That individual was later transported to a St. Louis hospital for additional treatment.
Investigators eventually apprehended Jermaine D. Stiff, 44, and Hosea J. Burgess, 20, for Lane’s killing.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged both Stiff and Burgess with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and being a felon in possession of a weapon. Both men will remain jailed pending a detention hearing.
