CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – One week following devastating storms around the St. Louis area, the Chesterfield Police Department is warning the public of a scam that target those with car damage.

According to police, the scam involves men in pickup trucks selling a purple paste that they advertise as a product which removes dents from hail-damaged cars. They allegedly also claim it can complete paint restoration.

“Your car still looks like it lost a fight with a shopping cart, but now it smells faintly of lavender and regret,” the Chesterfield Police Department said in their statement. “In all seriousness, this is a real scam going around and unfortunately, we have already had a couple of victims.”

When deciphering if a sale is real, the department encouraged the public to ask themselves if it’s too good to be true or if the individuals are asking for immediate payment, whether it be cash or Venmo.

Those who fall victim to the scam or believe they may have encountered the scammers are asked to call the department’s non-emergency line at 636-537-3000.
