CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. – The temperature dipped into the 20s as residents in Crystal City and Festus began to line streets for an annual parade, marking the 75th year of a community tradition.

The Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade showcases local businesses and organizations. The parade is approximately 2 miles long.

“It’s a great event,” Crystal City Mayor Mike Osher said. “It’s just good for the community, and I love it.”

“We have great people that live in both cities, and we’ll continue this tradition just as long as we possibly can,” Festus Mayor Sam Richards added.

More snow expected Monday in the St. Louis region

“I’ve walked in this parade in grade school and high school,” visitor Kim Gamel said. “Now, my grandchildren and my children, they’ve all been in the parade.”

Most residents were bundled in multiple layers to brave the cold.

The mayors hope the annual event serves as a reminder of the pride each community has and the benefits of shopping local.

“It makes you joyful and ready for the holidays,” Gamel said.
