ST. LOUIS – Three people were rescued from Centennial Christian Church Friday afternoon after a tornado caused a portion of the building to collapse. One of the three people did not survive.
A person at the church yesterday helping after the storm said the victim was pulled from under near where the bell tower collapsed.
Five people have died so far in Friday’s storms but the community continues to come together to help their neighbors.
“So we are, you know, if you have a relative that you would like us to check on, please call, know that we are working hard, you get to everybody, and we will do our very best to check on each home through around them or through the fire department – We’ve teamed up with them, and we will continue our work throughout the evening and through the coming days,” said Commander Rene Kreismann with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The National Weather Service said a tornado likely touched down near Clayton, went across St. Louis County and City and then went across the Mississippi River. They have began conducting their survey. The storm was wide with an initial estimate of 100 mph winds.
