A winter weather advisory has been issued for the entire St. Louis region from late Thursday night into Friday, with a winter storm warning in effect for areas south of the metro. Snowfall is expected to impact the Friday morning commute, with lighter accumulations in the metro area and heavier amounts to the south.
Storm timeline:
Thursday evening: Increasing clouds will move into the region, with dry conditions expected through the evening commute.
10 p.m. to 12 a.m.: Snow will begin in western counties, including areas from Rolla to Bowling Green in Missouri.
After midnight: Snow reaches the St. Louis metro area and continues spreading eastward into Illinois.
Friday morning commute (4 a.m. to 8 a.m.): Steady snow will be falling across most of the region, creating slippery road conditions.
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Snow tapers off from west to east, though some flurries may linger in far eastern counties.
How much snow are we going to get?
The St. Louis metropolitan area and locations northward can expect 1-2 inches of snow. Areas south of the metro, including Festus and Potosi, are forecasted to receive 2-4 inches. Far southern counties, such as Reynolds, Dent, and Madison, could see 4-6 inches of accumulation.
Forecasted snow totals:
Metro area and north: 1-2 inches.
South of the metro: 2-4 inches.
Far southern counties: 4-6 inches.
A slippery commute:
Although this storm is less intense than the previous one, roads may be snow-covered and slippery during the morning commute. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly in areas south of the metro where accumulations will be heavier. Temperatures hovering near freezing may help road treatments be more effective.

The snow is part of a system originating from Texas that will primarily affect the southern U.S., with St. Louis on the northern edge of its path. After the snow moves out, the weekend looks mostly dry with another chance for flurries late Sunday into early Monday.
