JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri House Special Committee on Urban Issues unanimously voted to advance HB 957, which aims to honor St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer, David Lee.
This bill was sponsored by Representative Marlon Anderson.
HB 957 looks to designate a section of Interstate 70 between Carrie Avenue and Adelaide Avenue to be renamed as the “Police Officer David Lee Memorial Highway” in the city of St. Louis.
In the early hours on Sept. 22, 2024, Lee was alerted to a car accident on I-70. When he was placing cones to separate traffic from the impacted area, he was hit by a passing car, in which the supposed driver lost control of the vehicle.
Lee was transported to a hospital, where he later passed away during surgery. He is survived by his wife and two children.
With this legislation in honor of Lee, Anderson wants to honor the SLMPD officer for his commitment to the community.
“Officer Lee’s service and commitment to keeping our community safe should be remembered forever in St. Louis,” Anderson said. “His tragic loss also represents the sacrifice every first responder makes when they go into our communities everyday and put their lives at risk for the cause of public safety.”
HB 957 is set to be discussed by the entirety of the Missouri House of Representatives.
