ST. LOUIS – There are two concerns this week. Brutally cold temperatures as well as accumulating snow are both anticipated.

On Monday morning, a quick hit of snow north of I-70 could lead to some light accumulations. For this, amounts should stay at an inch or less. The bigger concern for accumulating snow will come Tuesday into Wednesday with our next impactful winter storm.

Temperatures with this system are very cold so this will be an all snow event for our region. Where snow falls, it’ll stick since the ground temperatures will also be well below freezing.

Snow should start sometime on Tuesday morning but there’s a chance that the most widespread, impactful snow moves in from west to east later in the day. This will last into the early Wednesday morning hours, tapering off from west to east.

There will be a sharp cutoff on the northern edge of the storm system where amounts are significantly less. The highest amounts right now look to favor south central Missouri into southeastern Kansas. There is still some uncertainty when it comes to the accumulation forecast but here’s a look at what current data is indicating. The start of the heavier snow could is still around 48 hours away so there is a lot of time for this forecast to shift and come into better focus.
