OVERLAND, Mo. – A new chapter on community health care has opened in the Ritenour School District. The Husky Health Center will be available to the entire community and is set to provide critical health services to students, families, and more than 66,000 district residents.
Officials from CareSTL and the school district held a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new health center.
“We have transitioned a school-based health center into a new access point, transitioning to taking care of children into the entire community,” Angela Clabon, president and CEO of CARESTL Health, said.
Once exclusively for students, the Husky Health Center will offer little-to-no-cost medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health services to those deeply in need. The center even includes in-house transportation to make healthcare more accessible, allowing students to be transported to and from school without parents having to leave work.
“We help with housing. We help with food inequities,” Clabon said. “We have a full panel of people, team members that are with us. We’ll partner with Urban League. We’ll partner with many of social services that you may see in the community.”
Services are available regardless of income or insurance status, ensuring that no resident is left behind.
“We have two exam rooms for our nurse practitioner. One of the two exam rooms are going to be transitioned into a dental clinic and the final room is for pediatric behavioral health for students,” Dr. Chris Kilbride, Ritenour School District superintendent, said.
With this new facility, Kilbride said that the Ritenour School District is putting the health of its community center first. The Husky Health Center will be open to the public within the next week. If you would like to book an appointment, click here.
