ILLINOIS — Illinois State Police announced on Wednesday the deployment of a new command vehicle that will replace an 18-year-old vehicle.

According to ISP, the new 2025 Freightliner will “improve emergency response coordination, enhance safety, and provide crucial on-site support during critical incidents.”

The ISP said the new vehicle was provided by the U.S. Department of Energy and Office of Radiological Security.

The Freightliner is replacing a similar vehicle that ISP said was 18 years old and used outdated technology. The new command vehicle is equipped with high-definition cameras and monitors, new communication technology, real-time data access, and dual slide-outs for a larger conference room.

The vehicle will be stationed in Springfield, Illinois, and will be used as a “central hub” for ISP officers during natural disasters, large-scale accidents, public events, and search-and-rescue operations.

The Freightliner will also be used for training officers on response to hazardous material incidents.
