CLAYTON, Mo. – The St. Louis County Animal Shelter may reopen this week after a month-long quarantine due to a canine parvovirus outbreak.
The shelter has been closed since May 1, following an outbreak that led to the euthanization of 19 dogs.
The facility is nearing the end of its isolation and quarantine period and is implementing strict cleaning and disinfection protocols to ensure safety for animals and the public.
Partners at the Post-Dispatch reported that the veterinary medical director of the animal shelter resigned in the wake of the outbreak.
The shelter team, however, has emphasized the importance of following strict protocols for cleaning and disinfection to ensure a safe environment for both animals and the public.
