EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Three dozen people were arrested during a violent crime crackdown last week in St. Clair and Madison counties, the Illinois State Police announced Monday.
According to a statement from ISP’s Public Information Office, the crackdown targeted known high-crime areas, violent offenders, and structured criminal groups in the Metro East.
Nearly 60 state troopers from around the state participated in the detail, which ran from May 6 to May 8.
All told, authorities made 36 arrests, seized 20 firearms, and recovered one stolen vehicle.
Prosecutors filed 67 criminal charges against the arrestees, 45 of which were felonies and 33 were firearm related charges. The Illinois State Police did not provide more specifics on those charges.
