JERSEY COUNTY, Ill. – This summer, teens aged 13-17 will have the opportunity to participate in the Illinois State Police (ISP) camps.
Called “Team Illinois Youth Police Camps (TIYPC),” this week-long event strives to foster strong relationships for adolescents and law enforcement.
The TIYPC model is inspired by military procedures, where teens can experience various drills and participate in the classrooms that focus on leadership.
“This unique program makes a lasting difference by reaching out to youth who may be facing challenges and giving them a chance to grow, learn, and connect with law enforcement in a positive way,” said Ryan Grimes, Edwardsville Police Department School Resource Officer.
ISP shared that about 900 cadets have graduated from the TIYPC camps since 2006.
The camp will be held at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, from July 13 to 19.
Individuals can apply to the TIYPC by contacting Sandy Voytas at Sandy.Voytas@illinois.gov or 618-420-2804 or Master Sergeant Calvin Dye Jr. at Calvin.Dye@Illinois.gov or 217-685-4752.
“Programs like this help strengthen the bond between police and the communities we serve, encouraging understanding, respect, and shared purpose,” Grimes concluded.
