ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man remains jailed without bond for allegedly exposing himself at Forest Park on three different occasions this month.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statements, the first incident occurred on May 15 at the fish hatchery inside the park. A woman had contacted authorities and reported seeing a man touching himself behind a tree while looking at children at the hatchery.
When the man noticed the woman, he walked away. The woman saw the man walking toward Union a short time later and took a picture of him. She shared the photo with the police.
On May 21, police were again called to Forest Park for similar incidents. One victim told officers she was walking on a trail near the Grand Basin when she noticed a man following close behind her. The man continued to follow her as she made sudden changes in her direction, police said. She turned and saw the man had pulled his genitals out from his unzipped pants. The woman flagged down other park visitors and called police. The man ran off toward the zoo, but not before the woman took a picture of him.
While officers were at the park, they received word that the suspect was near the Nature Playscape. Officers met with the mother of a toddler, who said she saw a man sitting on a log with his pants pulled halfway down. She said the man looked at her and her child and began touching himself.
Officers located the suspect, Joshua Zinzel, 41, a short time later. Police said Zinzel matched the description from photos taken from prior victims.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Zinzel with three counts of first-degree sexual misconduct. Zinzel has a detention hearing scheduled for Friday, May 30, with a follow-up hearing on Tuesday, June 17.
