ST. LOUIS – A man was arrested Wednesday after he shot a man in the foot and barricaded himself in a north St. Louis home to avoid police.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), the incident took place overnight Wednesday morning around 12:30 a.m. on the 5900 block of Hamilton Terrace in north St. Louis’ Hamilton Heights neighborhood.

Police say the incident happened after the suspect shot a 38-year-old man in the foot over a personal matter the two had. When police arrived at the scene, the 45-year-old refused to come out of the home and barricaded himself in.

According to police, the man refused to surrender to authorities following tactical negotiations. Police say the man was located inside the home by an SLMPD canine and was later taken into custody around 8 a.m.

The 38-year-old man that was shot was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The investigation is still ongoing, police say.
