ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) announced the arrest of a man who is suspected of fatally shooting a pregnant woman and injuring another on April 23.

Detectives charged Vanier Jones, 28, with two counts of first-degree murder, as the victim was pregnant, according to officials. 

Authorities reported that the shooting happened just before 4:30 p.m. inside of a home in the O’fallon neighborhood off in the 4100 block of Farlin Ave. in St. Louis. 

SLMPD says at the time of the incident, five kids—ranging in ages 2-10—witnessed the two women being shot. Officials identified Christina Lynn Rentchler, 35, of St. Louis, deceased at the scene.

The other victim was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Other charges Jones faces include first-degree assault, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child and six counts of armed criminal action, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm.
